ADHD Care for Florida College Students

A Florida College student with a valid college ID pays $130 for the new patient ADHD visit at Padgett Medical Center, booked online with a card on file. That's 50% off the regular $260, and it covers the first visit only. Follow-ups each month are $136, the same for everyone. Booking doesn't charge your card, and your college ID is checked at the visit.

How do you get from campus to Padgett?

It's close to a one-road trip. Leave campus on Bullard Parkway heading west; it becomes Busch Boulevard, which carries you across north Tampa until it turns into Gunn Highway, and a left onto West Linebaugh Avenue brings you to 6904 W. Linebaugh Ave. That is about 11 miles and roughly 20 minutes without traffic, longer at rush hour.

No car? HART's Route 39 runs along Busch Boulevard from Temple Terrace, with stops at places like the Temple Terrace Public Library and Riverside Park, to the Northwest Transfer Center. It has a scheduled stop at Gunn Highway and Linebaugh Avenue, but that is still close to three miles east of the clinic, so most students will find a ride or a rideshare simpler.

How does residence hall life fit with a first visit?

Plan around curfew and the college calendar. Florida College expects freshmen and sophomores of traditional age to live in the residence halls unless they live at home, and curfew starts at 11 PM on weeknights. The clinic's latest hours are Wednesdays until 7 PM, so even an evening appointment gets you back to Temple Terrace hours before curfew.

The best window is early in a semester, not dead week, the week before finals when the college limits sign-outs and late curfew. What happens to follow-ups when the residence halls close?

Plan them before you leave Florida. Florida College draws students from all fifty states, and the residence halls close at Thanksgiving, after fall finals, for spring break and after spring finals, which sends many students home out of state.

Telehealth follow-ups only work while you're physically in Florida and can show a valid Florida driver's license or state ID on camera, so a video visit from home in Texas or Alabama isn't possible. Schedule each monthly follow-up for a week you're on campus, keep in mind that the college doesn't move exam times for travel, and talk with your provider about the long summer break well before May. If your only ID is from another state, your follow-ups will be in person in Tampa.

What support does Florida College itself offer?

Some, through referrals and advising. Florida College offers enrolled students up to five free, confidential counseling visits a year with referred counselors who are not college employees, and the academic advising office handles accommodations for students with disabilities. The campus has no health center, though a nurse is available during the week. Ask those offices directly what they require.

What if a hallmate asks to borrow your ADHD medication?

Say no. Prescribed medication is for you only, and sharing or selling it is illegal. With a roommate and a hall full of friends, keep it locked and out of sight. Padgett checks E-FORCSE, Florida's prescription drug monitoring program, before prescribing any controlled medication, and any prescription is filled at your own pharmacy, apart from the visit fee.
